JDM on Government

"My personal conviction had been that all government is bad because it offers positions of power to people hungry for power, while at the same time making the paths toward that power a series of winding trials best traveled by the man with guile, hypocrisy, a talent for conspiracy, the ability to maneuver people. The man of true merit in public office is a rarity under any form of government. Some kinds are better than others -- or less bad. I think ours is as good as mankind has found thus far."
